Testimonial I've recently installed the "powercheq" units in a EMX
racer and the two PowerCheq Module
Benefits to an Electric Vehicle System
Performance Verification
A key function of PowerCheq is to ensure that all of the voltages within the battery string remain balanced. In keeping the voltages balanced, PowerCheq prevents any of the batteries within the string from being over or undercharged. A further look at the individual battery voltages for both packs during a charge/discharge cycle can shed more light on the performance of the battery equalizers on a cycle by cycle basis. Figures 1 and 2 show the individual battery voltages of both packs during the 130th charge & drive cycles.
Figure 1 Figure 2 It is visible that in Fig. 1, the battery voltages are varied, causing the under and overcharging of batteries in the string. Whereas, in Figure 2, the battery string equipped with PowerCheq, the battery voltages are held tightly together allowing for the batteries to hold a fuller charge and run for longer periods of time. Battery life is increased by nearly 300%. As seen in Figure 3, the battery pack without PowerCheq goes through approximately 140 charge/discharge cycles before reaching its end of life. The battery pack with PowerCheq lasted approximately 440 charge/discharge cycles before reaching its end of life.
Figure 3: Comparison of Battery Life
Increased reliability and performance are additional benefits that PowerCheq brings to the end user’s battery string. These benefits are possible through PowerCheq’s ability to maintain the battery’s capacity as seen in Figure 4.
Figure 4: Comparison of Battery Capacity As shown in the figure, the capacity of the Pack 2 (with the equalizers) was not affected by cycling throughout more than 300 cycles. On that other hand, Pack 1's capacity (without PowerCheq) started declining from onset of the test. The decline in the capacity of Pack 1 (without equalizer) was caused by one module that became out of balance with the rest of the pack. It is interesting to note that over the first 140 drive cycles Pack 1 (without PowerCheq) lost nearly 35.5% of its initial capacity while the Pack 2 (with PowerCheq) gained nearly 6% based on Ah output. PowerCheq Test Summary
The graphs show test data gathered at Southern California Edison comparing two sets of 3 batteries. One set outfitted with PowerCheqs and the other set without. Each was put through the same drive cycle model similar to an electric scooter. You can see that at 140 drive cycles the set of batteries without PowerCheq has reached end of life … the batteries with PowerCheq are performing at the levels they did on day 1. The batteries with PowerCheq continued on to over 436 drive cycles. (This testing, background, how and why we get these results are detailed in the white paper.) Lead acid batteries in a motive application with PowerCheqs installed have the following benefits:
