Evaluation: GEVM Tomb Raider
Updated version of the e-Boarder. This is a solid, well
made scooter in the 12V
class we have all come to know so well. Again, EVGM has incorporated some
new items and improvements that make this a neat little package for flat terrain
and relatively lightweight adults or kids.
The efficient motor makes good use of the 12V 20A/hr
battery system, giving
a solid 50+ minutes of constant operation. Typical of the 12V scooters,
this is
a single speed throttle system without freewheeling capability. A Zappy style
belt provides power from motor to the integral rear wheel sprocket. Belt tension
is set through the use of adjustable axle positioning clamps.
The nicely welded chassis is chromed, and incorporates a
pair of skid rails
under the battery box for protection. The folding mechanism is solid, and
locks positively into position. Handlebar height is adjustable, with positive
stops at high and low positions.
A few pluses: The Tomb Raider is outfitted with front, rear, and
handlebar
end LED lights which the customer installs. The internal wiring in my test
scooter was exceptionally neat and well protected. A heavy duty fan cooled
6 Amp charger is included with this scooter!
A few negatives: The rear axle nuts were not tight,
and the rear wheel
assembly was somewhat deformed. This problem was responsible for
the "noisy" performance on the sound level tests. Quick service by
LEVT
quickly provided a replacement wheel.
As stated earlier, I believe this scooter is best suited
to children and lighter
adults. Of course, the portability of of the folding design can make this a
great commuter!
