Evaluation: GEVM Amplifier
A7

Now here is something really new and
different! Super clean welds and
high quality workmanship are immediately apparent in this terrific new
scooter. The all aluminum frame with integral 8A/hr batteries helps make
this scooter among the lightest in its class at a measured 34 lbs. (although
the literature states a greater weight)
The 24 volt brushless motor is quiet as it
drives the rear wheel through a
standard belt system. (no freewheel) The motor controller (built into the
motor) works extremely well with the smooth thumb action rotating throttle,
providing excellent slow speed control. Despite the Amplifier's relatively
slow cruise speed, the scooter is a deceptively strong hill climber, managing
the 13% test hill grade with little trouble!
Folding and unfolding this scooter is a
pleasure! Release the quick clamp,
push a button, and unfold the steering tube. Click! Close the quick clamp,
and
the steering tube is firmly locked in position. Reverse the sequence to fold.
it's smooth, fast, and strong!
Some special items: The handlebars are
equipped with ergonomically
designed rubber grips to keep your palms cushioned from road vibration.
A rotary tumbler key provides security by disabling power to the handle-
bar mounted on/off rocker switch. The key is removed while riding to
prevent damage. Also located on the throttle housing is a multi-LED
battery voltage indicator array. A 2A charger is included.
Some VERY
special items: The A7 Amplifier comes equipped with front
fork suspension and a rear disk brake! At one time, I considered these to
be unnecessary amenities. No longer. The 1.5" of front suspension irons
out those annoying tooth rattling bumps, cracks, and manhole covers. This
scooter has the smoothest ride of any 8" unit I've ridden. Braking is
equally
smooth and sure, with no sign of fade or complaining squeals!
A deficiency: My only real complaint is the A7's modest range. Although
5-6 miles is sufficient for many commuting needs, I'd like to encourage
the manufacturer to offer a NIMH version of this scooter. The added range,
coupled with the weight reduction (possibly under 30 lbs) could make this
a nearly unbeatable scooter in its price class! Thumbs up on this one!
